Same Blog, New Place

So glad you found me!

Totally posted here about our vermicomposting bins...and lost my post!
Here's the quick re-write version...the worms are living in this bin on my balcony...



These started as empty bins in November!  My students collected dry leaves from outside, shredded some newspaper, and put 1,000 red wiggler worms in each of the 16 bins my (fearless) teaching partner kept in her classroom this year.  (They don't smell if you keep them closed. Honest!)  When it came to June,(we had harvested both worms and soil with the students in May) there were still 5 bins worth of worms to sustain over the summer!  I adopted one...she took the other 4!

The worms eat organic food scraps (vegetables mostly), and need to be fed about once a week.  So far, they're doing fine!
